Default If communications failed...

Do you all think we would rely on ham radio operators? Are they pretty much our last line of radio communications? Talk about it!

It works in the event of cell towers and phone lines down. During an event like that your emergency services will be tied up and talking on their frequencies in regards to rescue operations and security operations as well. Then there is your triage communications as well as supply communications.

What the HAMs can do though is act in operational support mode. They can use their radios to patch a radio into a land line for stable communication. They can just be an extra radio in case to.

Do they have training about ARES in regular ham training? Is ARES a part of emergency management?

ARES is special training and they are not a part of emergency management. RACES is the ones that deal with emergency management and even then they are not an actual part of emergency management. They are special trained as well and they are only a support unit.
